Wife | Mother | Photographer
I'd love to bottle up the feeling of my son's hand on my shoulder while he's on my hip. The details of my daughter's fingers twirling her hair. The squeal of excitement on Christmas morning. The pride in watching them grow to be independent.
This is what I photograph.
More About Kelsey
I know we can’t possibly be the only ones desperate for things to do while attempting to limit our exposure to Covid-19! And even if we WANTED to go explore, it would need to be outside where its SWELTERING here in Texas! AND I’m 34 weeks pregnant! Options are super limited for us, so Fossil Rim drive-thru safari was an excellent choice!
From McKinney, Fossil Rim is about two hours away from us which isn’t too bad. Some of the Covid restrictions are that you must reserve your tickets online only – they do not sell any tickets on location – and you must reserve an arrival time slot. Personally, I’d be reserving it all online anyway, but in case you’re not that type of person I wouldn’t want you to drive all the way out there and discover no tickets were left.
Also their restrooms are closed, but they have port-a-potties all around at the break spots. I’d recommend gassing up the car and going in an air conditioned gas station before you enter. Masks are required anytime you leave the vehicle for whatever reason. The cafe is open and so is the gift shop, but social distance is required along with the masks.
We took our three-year-old girl and it was a DREAM for her! She’s been talking about going back to feed the animals over and over and over! It killed an entire afternoon as well, which is hard to do these days. I went on a weekday to avoid traffic and it was perfect. I imagine it’s a little slower on the weekends. It says its about 2 hours to get through, and ours was a little less than that since there wasn’t much build up.
I had every intention of using my new camera (Just got an EOS R mirrorless!) but I was too nervous that an animal would snatch up my girl and take her out of the car, so I used my handy iPhone camera instead. On that note, BEWARE OF THE OSTRICH! There was only one when we went, but he has NO CHILL. My husband fed him out of the drivers side and when he didn’t immediately have another piece, he bit him! And I mean BIT HIM! It’s been over a week and he’s still bruised! Thank god it was him and not my daughter because this was within the first 5 minutes of the trip and it could’ve ruined the entire day. MEAN OLD OSTRICH!
